JERALD D. SHATZMAN is a practicing attorney and the principal member of the firm of SHATZMAN AND ASSOCIATES, P.C. with offices in Bingham Farms, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 1968, a Juris Doctor in 1971 and a Masters of Laws in Taxation in 1984 from Wayne State University Law School. Shatzman is a member of the Michigan State Bar - Probate and Trust Section, Taxation Section, American Bar Association - Agricultural Committee (Adjunct Member) and Federal Bar Association. He is a former Internal Revenue Agent and an Estate and Gift Tax Attorney. Shatzman has worked extensively in the areas of estate planning and corporate planning and Shatzman taught estate planning for five years.
His practice involves asset protection planning and showing clients how to protect their assets from claims of unforeseen creditors. Shatzman shows clients how to maintain control of their assets and their family owned businesses while at the same time transferring large portions of their wealth to their children and other family members without incurring any federal and state transfer taxes by using Wills, Revocable Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships, Corporations and Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts. His practice includes the drafting of Wills and Revocable Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships, Corporations, Irrevocable Trusts and Special Needs Trusts. Shatzman is frequently retained by clients and their CPAs to resolve disputes at both the agent and appellate levels with the Internal Revenue Service.
